Black History Month - The View From The Shoulders Of Giants: A Month In Review. A black couple looking forward with hope

As February comes to a close, I’ve been reflecting on the journey we’ve taken together over the last four weeks. We set out to honor the Black History Giants — the individuals that built the foundation on which we stand, work, and dream.

From the courtrooms to the laboratories, we’ve explored a legacy that is as diverse as it is powerful.

A Quick Look Back:

Week 1 (The Strategy): We honored the Legal Minds like Thurgood Marshall, who reminded us that justice requires a blueprint.

Week 2 (The Narrative): We celebrated the Truth-Tellers like James Baldwin and Ida B. Wells, who showed our stories are our power.

Week 3 (The Groundwork): We paid tribute to the Quiet Disruptors like Ella Baker, who showed us leadership is found in service and organization.

Week 4 (The Innovation): We looked at the Modern Pioneers like Dr. Shirley Jackson, who expanded our reach from the stars to the digital world.

What I’ve Learned

The month of February reminded me that Black History is not a static chapter in a book; it is a living, breathing momentum. Standing on the shoulders of giants isn’t just a position of comfort — it’s a position of vantage. Because we stand so high, we can see further. We can see the work that still needs to be done, and we have the tools to do it.

The Torch is Passed

The Black History Month may have ended, but the responsibility to build remains. We are the “Giants” for the next generation. Every time we mentor a colleague, speak up against an injustice, or innovate in our fields, we are adding another stone to the foundation.

Thank you for joining me on this journey of reflection. Let’s not just remember history; let’s keep making it.

The Giants did their part. Now, what will we build on the ground that they gave us?

As an author of fiction, I believe our greatest moral obligation is to be “witnesses” through our characters. We create imagined worlds to tell undeniable truths about our own.

Looking Ahead: The Journey Continues
While the calendar turns to March, our reflection does not stop here. We’ve spent the last four weeks honoring the Giants that built our foundation. Now, it’s time to look at those that are presently carrying the torch into the future.

📢 This coming week, I am launching a new series for the International Women’s History Month, the “Torch-Bearers” of today; the women shaping the next century.

Black History Month To Women's History Month; My Next Series

From tech disruptors to cultural visionaries, we’ll be looking at the women that are not just standing on the shoulders, but are becoming the “Giants” for the next generation. You won’t want to miss this series.

Here are what you can expect over the next four weeks of the International Women’s History Month

Women's History Month - The Torch-Bearers: Four Part Series
